How to Boost Metabolism With Herbs

How to Boost Metabolism With Herbs

Are you looking for a way to boost metabolism? If you're metabolism is sluggish, it could really affect your ability to lose weight. There are many reasons why your metabolism can slow down. These include aging, stress, poor diet, lack of exercise and genetics.

The good news is that there is hope. You can boost metabolism naturally. You can help your metabolism by consuming herbs that help speed it up. These are gentler on the body than weight-loss supplements which typically overload your body with caffeine. The problem with those supplements is that the caffeine can harm your metabolism even more. Try these tips instead!

Things You'll Need:

Green tea (loose tea or bags)

Kelp

Mate

Ginger

Cinnamon

Cayenne pepper

Instructions

1

Green tea works because it is a thermogenic agent which means that helps you burn more calories above and beyond what you'd normally burn. If you are sensitive to caffeine you can use caffeine-free tea and it will still be just as effective.

2

Kelp helps boost metabolism because it contains iodine which is essential for the thyroid. This works especially well if you have a thyroid that is not functioning properly. You can either purchase kelp granules or use kelp (either the flakes or the whole plant) in the food you eat.

3

Mate is another herb that people use for energy and since it has only a small amount of caffeine, it is good for people who are sensitive to caffeine. Most supermarkets sell mate tea, or you can visit your local health food store. You can find the tea online as well.

4

Ginger, cinnamon and cayenne pepper are all herbs that have a thermogenic effect just like green tea. However, they should only be used in small amounts. Try to cook every day with at least one of these herbs. For example, you can sprinkle a small amount of cayenne in a stir fry, make a marinade with ginger or sprinkle some cinnamon in some oatmeal.

Tips & Warnings

Exercise and eat right to help boost metabolism even more.

Find new ways to cook with herbs to add variety to your diet and increase the nutritional value of the food you eat.

If you have a serious health problem, you may want to consult with your doctor or nutritionist before making changes to your diet and lifestyle.

How to Boost Immune System Function With Herbs

How to Boost Immune System Function With Herbs

Do you get sick a lot? If this is the case, your immune system could use a boost. With cold and flu season approaching, I am going to take extra special care that I feed my body a balanced diet, exercise, and take herbs to help strengthen my body against attack.

But which herbs are the best? Here is some advice that will help you make some choices.

Things You'll Need:

In order to help boost your immune system, you will need to choose the right herb from the descriptions below.

You can choose to take these herbs in capsule form (follow the instructions on the label) or as a tea (add 1 cup of hot water to 1 tsp of the dried herb, or one tea bag)

If you decide to take the herb as a tea, drink two to three cups per day.

Here is some advice to get you started:

1

There are some herbs called adaptogens that work to bring your body back in balance. They help your body adapt to the stresses of every day life which helps strengthen the immune system. Adaptogenic herbs include ginseng, shiitake mushrooms, reishi, ashwaganda and astragalus.

2

Garlic is one of those herbs that can be used in cooking. It helps your body deal with infection and also has some Vitamin C and quercetin--antioxidants that can help your immune system.

3

Simple tonic herbs also help strengthen your body and make it healthier. These herbs are best taken in tea form. Try stinging nettle, oatstraw, lemon balm and mullein. When your body is healthy, the immune system can do its job.

4

I've only recently started to take sage seriously as an herb that can be very helpful at dealing with infections. It's an herbal antibiotic and is also very useful during flu season because it can help with coughs, sore throats, and even fevers. Keep this herb around and drink two to three cups of tea a day when those around you seem to be getting sick. Sage may just prevent you from getting it.

Tips & Warnings

Make sure that the herbs you use are a high quality and that you got them from a reputable source.

Talk to your doctor about any herbs you may be taking.

Research the side effects just in case your doctor missed anything.

How to Blend Your Own Anti-Stress Cup of Tea

How to Blend Your Own Anti-Stress Cup of Tea

Homemade herbal tea is one of the things that helps me get through the stressful times. I've found that since we lead stressful lives, we need to take the time to relax. I like to handle my stress gently - with exercise, diet, and gentle herbal teas.

I have found that drinking a cup of relaxing herbal tea each night can really help. There are certain herbs that can help promote sleep and are also not habit forming like prescription sleeping pills are. Feeling relaxed and sleeping enough are both essential to keep the stress levels in check. Here's how you can make a cup on your own.

Things You'll Need:

Chamomile, lemon balm, oatstraw, passion flower, stinging nettle or any herbal blend that is said to promote relaxation

A pretty mug

Boiling water

Instructions

1

Choose the herbal tea that you want to drink. To start with, you can pick from the list at the top. Those herbs are all of my favorites. I would try each herb individually at first.

2

Bring water to a boil in a stainless steel saucepan. Place the tea bag in your mug. If you are using loose tea, place it in a tea strainer (follow the instructions on the package for your tea strainer).

3

Let the herb steep for 3 to 5 minutes. Remove the tea bag or leave it in while you drink it if you want something stronger. Oatstraw and chamomile are two herbs that can be left in the mug for a while.

4

Sweeten as desired. You can also add milk. Play some relaxing music or read while you sip your tea.

5

Once you get to know the herbs individually, you can start to combine them. I would start combining them in pairs. Stinging nettle and oatstraw, for example, combine very well together. You can also try lemon balm and nettle, chamomile and oatstraw, or passionflower and chamomile. As you become familiar with the paired combinations, you can blend them as you see fit.

Tips & Warnings

Try a different herb each night to see which one you like best.

Let your taste buds rule your choices. Which herbs taste the best to you?

Research the herb to make sure it's right for you.

Consult with your doctor before trying anything new. Remember, just because it is natural doesn't mean it is safe.

How to Become a Phrenologist

How to Become a Phrenologist

Phrenology is based on the idea that there is a direct correlation between the bumps and indentations on the head and a person's character traits. The thought is that the areas of the brain that are frequently used grow larger. A phrenologist is trained to understand where traits correspond on the surface of the head and how to analyze data found after an examination.

1

Understand that phrenology is not practiced as a sole profession anymore; however, some of the underlying principles of phrenology are applied in the medical field.

2

Practice phrenology by knowing the 21 faculties (personal characteristics) and where each faculty corresponds on the head. Faculties are broken down into four main categories: love, morals, intellect and energy.

3

Examine the head for bumps and indentations. The size, shape and location of the bumps and indentations are believed to directly correspond to the personal characteristics (faculties) of the individual.

4

Find a plaster phrenology head to use for locating the faculties on the skull. The most recognized brand of this phrenology tool is the "Fowler" model. Not commonly produced today, the phrenology head is found mostly in antique shops or specialty manufacturers like The London Phrenology Company.

Tips & Warnings

Upon purchasing a plaster phrenology head for personal use, be wary of unknown manufacturers. Some impostor phrenology heads are imprinted with the faculties in the wrong location. Check the head with a chart or compare with a picture of a trusted phrenology head, the "Fowler" model.

A phrenology reading can be erroneous if the phrenologist does not conduct a thorough exam, the subject has severe brain damage or a misshapen head due to an accident. Any significant psychological disorder can cause a bad phrenology reading as well.
