How to Make The Perfect 'Beach Skirt'

How to Make The Perfect 'Beach Skirt'

This is an awesome idea for anyone that spends a lot of time on the beach, the pool or on a boat. This is a great alternative to just wrapping a towel around your waist (and then messing with it all day).

Things You'll Need:

A great looking beach towel.

Two buttons

Step
1

I came up with this idea a few years ago (before children) when I was spending countless hours boating on the lake. It's such a simple idea that only takes a few minutes. To get started find a good quality towel that looks great with your bikini.

Step
2

Now, holding the corners of the towel in each hand, wrap the first corner around the front of you. Holding this corner at a comfortable position on your waist, mark the inside of the outer layer where the corner meets.

Step
3

Then, holding that corner in position, wrap the other corner over the top, as you would if you were going to wrap a towel around your waist. Holding that corner in place, mark the layer underneath where the corner meets.

Step
4

Now, attach your buttons where you've placed your marks and cut small slits (button size) at the corners of the towel. If you would like a sexier look, cut the towel of short. If you cut it at the middle, you could have two 'beach skirts' by adding buttons to the piece you cut off.

Step
5

You can still fold the towel over at the top for a natural look, but the buttons keep the towel from continually falling off throughout the day.

Tips & Warnings

For a finished edge at the bottom, you can cut the towel prior to adding the buttons, and use the cut edge at the top, leaving the original hem at the bottom.

You can also add your own hem at the bottom, by just folding the towel over and sewing it across, or use a piece of scrap material around the bottom for a more custom look.

You could also use the piece from the bottom by turning it over and using the reverse side as a bottom hem, or if you're real crafty, you could add a few pockets to the front and/or back!
